When deciding which service is better for you there are a few facts to consider. 

First you need to decide what look you are trying to achieve. A natural lash curled makes the lash look longer which is why you usually use a lash curler before applying mascara. However, you still need the mascara to make the lash look thicker. So a lash lift (Perm) makes the lash look longer and tinting it makes it darker but if you wear makeup you would still want to use mascara for that look. 

Lash extensions come in classic (one lash/lash) or Volume (several thinner lashes/lash) sets with different curl patterns, different diameters and different lengths. Therefore we can create any look you desire. A natural look as pictured is a classic set in a cat eye pattern. Extensions are usually used to eliminate mascara altogether but you still can use it to add drama when wearing makeup.

The important differences to consider when weighing options is how much time each service takes, the upkeep of each service and finally the cost. 

A lash lift appointment takes around 30-45 min. & adding tint adds another 15 minutes. Price ranges anywhere from $75-$125. It doesn't require upkeep as it grows out and you are back to your natural growth pattern in about 5-6 weeks.

Eyelash extensions are high maintenance with appointments taking anywhere from a first appointment being 2 - 2.5 hours and costing between $100 - $300. They require a fill appointment every 2 weeks that takes an hour and ranges from $65 - $85.

Extensions are a time saver every morning as you always look put together or awake without having to apply mascara but they also take time every 2 weeks for an appointment. So consider this and the cost to decide if this is what you want.

A gentler approach is often more beneficial. Muscles may resist if they are not adequately prepared for deep pressure. If you find yourself tensing up to endure deep pressure, it's too intense.

A proficient therapist will regularly check on pressure levels, but it's essential for you to communicate if the pressure feels too deep. Both you and your therapist will appreciate it!

2. “Pregnant women should avoid massages, especially in the first trimester.”

There is no evidence supporting the idea that massage is harmful during pregnancy. Certain points are avoided during massage, specifically acupuncture points related to \"letting go\". Prenatal massages can still be provided effectively by steering clear of these points.

The first trimester is considered the most delicate period for the baby, and some massage establishments may refrain from offering massages to clients in their first trimester to mitigate any liability concerns related to miscarriages post-massage. If your skin has been prepped with retinols for several weeks we can microneedle the peel into the skin however, this is for the skin that can take a lot. (We will not micro needle it in if you have never had a strong peel with us before.) We can do it after the peel if you want the collagen stimulation. Firstly, What is a chemical peel anyway? There are all different types of “peels” and with conflicting information out there it can be confusing or scary. Most procedures that are done on a whim are truly just a chemical exfoliation as opposed to a physical exfoliation which you may be familiar with. These are the everyday things we do for that beautiful glowing skin. These peels can be compared to dermaplaning, diamond dermabrasion, or microdermabrasion. These peels are better than physical exfoliation for sensitive or delicate skin types because they are not abrasive and usually have no downtime. Depending on desired results, some Chemical Peel can be done every 2 weeks to achieve maximum results. Especially when you are doing them in between medical procedures like SkinPen, Laser, or RF Microneedling. Keep in mind there is a post-procedure kit required for aftercare for ALL peels and you need to use the proper skincare routine.

Next we move up to low grade peels. They are usually a lower percentage chemical and usually have little down time maybe for a few days like flaking skin to peeling skin. They get a little deeper than just the dead skin. They stimulate cell turnover and help lighten and brighten the skin. They can help with any skin condition. We choose the formula based on your particular skin type and condition. It usually takes a series of three to six of this type of peel depending on how much damage you are trying to correct.

If you have severe hyperpigmentation or Melasma, acne, cystic acne or wrinkles then we need to be a bit more aggressive in our approach. We will get the skin ready a few weeks before the peels start with products for optimal end results. These usually have a week of down time. Sometimes you won’t peel at all which doesn’t mean it’s not working! This is a common misconception of the name PEEL. It doesn’t mean your skin will “peel” off. It means we apply a specific type or types of chemicals to your skin to activate the cell turnover process. It is stimulating collagen and creating new cell growth. But your skin can sill be sensitive and fragile that week needing extra protection from sun and environmental damage. You will need to follow a specific protocol for 7-10 days before returning to your normal skin care routine. We have made specific memberships for these types of situations with a complete monthly plan to follow to make the whole process affordable and easy for all of our clients. We also have a few at home peel options you can ask us about.

We also have a few medical grade peels that require you to speak with one of our Nurse Practitioners first to make sure this is right for your skin. These require weeks of prep but less treatments as they are much deeper. You will see your results quicker but you will also have to allow for 7-10 days of down time. They can be a bit pricier but you need less of them so it usually works out to be not too different in cost. The real difference is not everyone has the availability for the down time required and these have a stronger sting/Irritant effect for the several minutes they are on the skin as it’s a higher percentage in chemical peel. We calm this stinging sensation with fans to ease this process. So to recap, quicker results = more upfront cost and downtime.

How do I get rid of these annoying spots on my skin?

What is the Skin Classic and is it right for me?

The Skin Classic machine is a non-laser treatment that treats skin irregularities on the skins surface. It is direct high frequency that performs electrodessication to the irregularity. It is performed by an Esthetician or RN and causes the irregularity to vaporize and dehydrate, which will scab over and heal properly. It is an affordable option compared to laser, cryosurgery or cauterization. There is less risk of scarring or hyperpigmentation and requires minimal downtime.

What is the downtime and aftercare?

It should scab over quickly and heal so you need to be careful the first 4-6 days not to rub or scratch the scab off. Patting the skin dry instead of rubbing is mandatory after washing daily the first week. You should avoid the sun for 2 weeks as that can cause hyperpigmentation while healing. The spots will remain slightly darker (almost like a freckle) for a few weeks. We highly recommend using a brightening serum while healing on the face, as it’s often exposed to sunlight—also a great sunscreen every day, especially on the face or hands.

What can it treat?

Most common skin irregularities such as broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, keratosis, skin tags, hyperpigmentation, milia, sebaceous hyperplasia, and acne. It is NOT used to treat Melasma as it creates heat and that usually causes more (or darker) Melasma so we only use the Aerolase Neo Elite to lighten Melasma. How long does the treatment take?

We book a 30 min session for this service. We allow 20 min to numb and 10 minutes to remove 5-7 spots depending on size. We recommend doing several sessions at 2 week intervals if you have a lot of irregularities so they can heal in previous areas. Whether it’s your very first facial or the 100th, it never hurts to get to know your esthetician and ask them some intelligent questions that can make the entire process more enjoyable, educational, and satisfying. Here are seven must-ask questions for your esthetician that will ensure you have a great experience.

1. What is your training or experience?

While licensed estheticians are all required to fulfill certain educational and hands-on experience, they haven’t necessarily had the same training or experience—and it will behoove you to know exactly why or how your particular esthetician is qualified to treat you. Some might have taken some additional courses on top of their basic training or have been mentored by more seasoned professionals. Plus, you’ll get a better sense if they have more know-how and savvy to get your facial regimen correctly the first time around, and if their skin philosophy suits your specific needs.

2. How will my skin look today, tomorrow and next week?

You want to know how your skin will look after the treatment session! Some treatments may cause excessive redness and irritation as your skin works to heal itself, and you may have to be homebound for up to a week. With gentler treatments, you may be perfectly fine to go about your regular activities right away. Meanwhile, treatments, particularly the use of acidic exfoliants, may require you to avoid the sun altogether. A good esthetician will let you know this regardless, but it’s good to ask this question in any case.

3. How do you determine what facial and procedures are best for my skin?

An experienced esthetician will take into account your unique skin and ask you a few questions to determine what type of treatment is best. It’s best to be honest with them about your skin type and how you take care of it at home. Also letting them know of any allergies and medications can be especially helpful. Having this knowledge will help your esthetician give you the most customized and best treatment.

4. What is your extraction method?

Not all estheticians use the same extraction method. Some will use a tool to extract blackheads; others will use gloves and their fingers. Depending on your skin type, it’s important to know the type of extraction method your esthetician will use to give you the most benefit. Some extraction methods are more aggressive than others, and if you have sensitive skin, they can lead to irritation that may make your skin worse or cause damage like scarring, broken capillaries, or discoloration.

5. How can I make extractions more pleasant?

If you’re afraid of the extraction process (because honestly, it can be painful sometimes), this question will help you know how to prepare your skin for the process to make it a little bit easier for you. If you know that a facial appointment is coming up, make sure to stay hydrated inside and out. This means drinking lots of water and moisturizing often at least a few days before your appointment. Your esthetician may recommend even more options.

6. Why didn’t you extract every blackhead?

You may notice that not all of your blackheads have necessarily been extracted, and this may give you pause. The truth is that it may be impossible to remove every single blackhead, especially if there are a lot. Your esthetician may have determined that removing all of them may take too much time or be too hard on your skin, irritating. Meanwhile, some blackheads are very stubborn and may be too difficult to remove without causing scarring or infection.

7. What are your product or care recommendations for my particular skin type?

After your session, you can ask your esthetician if they have any particular product recommendations so that you can continue treating your skin after the facial. Your esthetician may recommend different types of moisturizers, serums, exfoliants and masks that will keep your skin in prime condition until your next appointment. Retinols, while a very beneficial product, can be a little confusing; both with what exactly they are and also how to use them properly. So let’s begin with the basics and discuss the different types of Retinols as well as the best practices for beginning to use them.

Retinoids are the umbrella term for any product containing retinol as there are many types of this powerhouse ingredient. The first we will discuss is retinol, which is a derivative of vitamin A—an excellent antioxidant and cell communicator. It works by attaching itself to the skin cells and telling them to act healthy and younger, causing cells to turn over faster, and making way for new growth. It also hinders the breakdown of collagen and thickens the deep layer of skin where wrinkles first start, thus making retinol extremely effective in not only decreasing fine lines, but also reducing pore size, improving texture, stimulating collagen production, and also managing acne and discoloration.

While many dermatologists agree that retinol is the best age eraser available, it doesn’t come without side effects. For some, retinol can cause the skin to become red, irritated, and flaky. This is far more common when using the prescription form of retinol known as Retinoic Acid, Retin-A or Tretinoin, which as you might suspect, is a much higher concentration. Retinol, on the other hand, is milder and is converted into retinoic acid when absorbed into the skin.

There is a lot of literature showing that while retinol is more gentle than retinoic acid, biochemically it does exactly the same thing, however, it may take longer to see results. The same cannot be said for the derivatives called pro-retinol (aka retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate, and retinyl linoleate), which are the most gentle, but weaker, too. A licensed medical or skincare professional is the best resource to use to guide you toward which product is best for your skin type and goals.

The ?’s

To begin, how often should Retinol be used? A typical response is 2-3 times per week, at night, when adding a retinol/tretinoin to your routine. Remember that it takes several weeks for your skin to adjust to the product, so it’s best to use it sparingly at first and then gradually increase your use as time goes on.

What is the best way to work through the side effects generated by retinols? “The best way out is through!” Meaning, if you stop using the product because you are seeing redness, irritation and flakiness, then every time you begin back up you will see the same results. Power through a few weeks of the side effects and your skin will begin to normalize and adjust to the retinol. This is all part of the process, however soon the cells adapt and begin to tolerate the retinol.

How long does it take to work? An excellent question. On average 12 weeks to begin seeing cellular changes in the skin, with consistent use. Keep it up!

What about SPF during the use of Retinols? All day, everyday. We recommend at least an SPF 30 or higher. One that is separate from your makeup and that is reapplied every two hours during the day. Tips: Please discontinue use of retinols for 5-7 days prior to chemical peels, laser and microneedling treatments. And if you’re microblading patient, please avoid applying retinol products near your eyebrows to prevent fading.

Microblading has become very popular in the last few years and is quickly becoming a staple service for most people with less desirable eyebrows.

This procedure has been called many things, mostly for marketing reasons, from Eyebrow Feathering, Embroidery, and even 3D Brows (Yes we know there is nothing 3D about it). There are a lot of different reasons why people come in for Microblading, however everyone agrees on how much time is saved every morning.

Let’s talk about what it is! Microblading is an advanced form of tattooing where we use a specialized hand tool to place pigment in the epidermal layer of the skin for extra crisp lines to give the appearance of real hair.

If you have never tried it before it’s good to know what to expect. You can not have any caffeine until after your procedure. Most people want the first-morning appointment for this very reason. We will clean the area with alcohol and apply a numbing agent for 30 minutes. During this time we will discuss your brows and the desired outcome. We then map the brows out and microblade a base well within the mapping area. After we finish we will hand you a mirror and perfect them to your liking. When you are happy we seal the area so it won’t get infected.

Some people are not a good candidate for this service. People who are on chemotherapy, pregnant or nursing, people who bleed a lot, and also very oily skin. Don’t panic if you fall into one of these categories as there are other options either waiting till you are in the clear or if you are oily we do machine work called feather strokes.

There is an emotional roller coaster ride for the new clients.

If you bled at all you are more then likely going to need that perfecting visit at week 5.

Things that will affect your brow’s longevity are skincare that turns over the cells quickly like chemical peels, laser services on your face, retinol. And the best way to preserve them is SPF on them everyday. (But your already wearing this on your face everyday right?!) For the most part they last a year. Some will last 10 months and some 18 months based on lifestyle and products as mentioned above.

Melasma is a common skin pigmentation disorder affecting over five million people. It presents clinically with brown, tan, and blue-gray patches on the skin, primarily on the face. The most common areas of the face for melasma to appear are mid-forehead, cheeks, bridge of the nose, and the upper lip. It can also appear on the neck, chest, and arms.

Much like general hyperpigmentation, melasma appears in the form of discoloration on the skin and is exacerbated by exposure to the sun.What causes melasma? The cause of melasma is not entirely known. Researchers have found a correlation between darker skin types and melasma. This is due to an increase in melanocytes, which are the cells responsible for producing pigment in the skin. Here are the top three things that contribute to melasma development:

With hormonal fluctuations, any shift in hormones can trigger melasma. Pregnant women experience significant hormonal fluctuations. Sun exposure can intensify melasma, despite using sunscreen frequently. Prior to a SkinPen microneedling treatment, a thorough skin analysis will be performed and a treatment course best to fit your needs will be recommended. Before the procedure, a topical numbing cream will be applied, making it a very comfortable appointment with light pressure and a vibration sound. Procedures usually take 30 minutes to complete, depending on the area treated and desired results. Due to their non-invasive nature, microneedling sessions usually require little downtime for patients.

What to expect after a microneedling session? Often the day of your appointment you could experience moderate redness and possible pinpoint bleeding. The following day feels comparable to a sunburn and you could still have some redness, however, most people are able to return to their normal routine.

We ask that you do not workout or sweat within the first 24 hours as there are open microchannels in the skin and we do not want to interfere with the important healing process. Also no face makeup during this time. Also, please wipe down anything that touches your face with an alcohol pad ie. sunglasses, glasses, and cell phone. After treatment at home, please use a clean pillow case, clean towel and wash your makeup brushes. This will help to ensure your skin is staying free of any debris during the time when the microchannels are open as this is crucial for the healing process.

Those who are not candidates for the SkinPen microneedling procedure include those who:
